Tonometry

This standard test determines the fluid pressure inside the eye.

Whether or not you get glaucoma depends on the level of pressure that your optic nerve can tolerate without being damaged. This level is different for each person.

High pressures (22mm HG or above) puts you at greater risk for glaucoma.

Tonometry determines the fluid pressure inside the eye. We measure eye pressure with two types of testing. First all patients are measured by the "air puff" test which measures the resistance of the eye to puff of air. Goldmann Tonometry; the gold standard test, using a purple light and actual touch to the cornea of the eye is done when circumstances deem it necessary.
